From Amherstburg (near Windsor) to Vaughan, Ontario is home to a growing number of wineries. Whether you plan to simply pop in to pick up a few bottles to add to your home collection, or if you love nothing more than enjoying a few leisurely glasses of wine on a sun-drenched afternoon, you’ll undoubtedly enjoy visiting Ontario’s wineries. Here are a few favourites – some large, and some small.

Colio Estate Wines

Home of the famous Girls’ Night Out wines and many other fantastic selections, Colio Estate Wines was established in 1980. Today, the winery boasts more than 2.4 million litres of cooperage capacity and produces over 300,000 cases of wine annually. With an elegant hospitality centre hosting tastings and tours, this Niagara region winery is a must see. Colio Estate is located at 1 Colio Drive in Harrow.

Crown Bench Estates Winery

Offering the finest of wines as well as a number of gourmet products, Crown Bench Estates Winery is perched on the Beamsville Bench, with the Niagara Escarpment on its southern border, and the Bruce Trail just about 100 metres away. Offering views of both Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline, it is home to a number of wildlife species and features streams, waterfalls, and ponds that make it the perfect place to get away from it all. Crown Bench Estates is located at 3850 Aberdeen Road in Beamsville, which is about 21 km east of St. Catharines.

D’Angelo Vineyard Estates Winery

A small winery with magnificent grapevines covering 50 acres, D’Angelo Vineyard Estates Winery specializes in coveted icewines and other award winning vintages. With a retail store and a tasting room, this beautiful little winery is the perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon. D’Angelo Vineyard Estates Winery is located at 5141 5th Concession North in Amherstburg.

Joseph’s Estate Wines

Family owned, and boasting a number of international and national awards, Joseph’s Estate Wines focuses on quality, rather than on quantity. Offering tours, tastings, and a boutique, this fantastic winery is situated on twenty beautiful acres and is located at 1811 Niagara Stone Road in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Magnotta Winery

Boasting an impressive 75,000 square foot facility with soaring cathedral ceilings, and offering special tours daily, Magnotta Winery is located just a short distance from Toronto, making it a great getaway close to the city. A spectacular collection of some of the more than 3,000 medals this winery has won over the years is on display in the award room, and the fountain garden is the perfect place to relax over a glass of your favorite wine – in all, Magnotta offers more than 180 products. The winery is located at 271 Chrislea Road in Vaughan.
