Haileybury is part of the Temiskaming Shores municipality.  Founded in 1889, Haileybury was named the Haileybury and Imperial Service College in England. Haileybury was formally incorporated as a town in 1904 and joined with Dymond and New Liskeard in 2004.

With its proximity to Lake Timiskaming, boating and canoeing are hugely popular. There are many walking trails surrounding the lake.  Taking the road along the short to New Liskeard is a popular scenic drive.

The Haileybury Golf Club has a challenging nine hole course and can claims to be among the oldest in Ontario having been established in 1921.
