Lindsay, a community on the Scugog River in the Kawartha Lakes region of southern Ontario was founded in 1833. The town, officially incorporated in 1857, was originally called Purdy's Mill, after William Purdy who dammed the Scugog River at Lindsay in 1834 to power his grist mill.

At Lindsay, the Trent-Severn Waterway connects Lake Ontario and Lake Huron, being a main gateway to the Kawartha Lakes tourist region. Nearby Lake Scugog is fed by the Nonquon and Layton Rivers and drained by the Scugog River. The name "Scugog" is an Ojibwe word meaning "marshy waters".

Fishing enthusiasts and recreational boaters enjoy the local lake with its unique formations of swamps and bogs providing habitat for waterfowl and wildlife.

The Academy Theatre for Performing Arts presents concerts and plays year-round. Antique shops, art galleries, farmer's market, and six public golf courses within a 20-minute drive are unique tourist attractions.

Lindsay accommodations highlight condominium style resorts and Bed and Breakfasts for rest and relaxation.
