Dating back to the 18th century, Newark as it was called then, was the capital of Upper Canada. During the War of 1812, Niagara-on-the-Lake was totally destroyed by fire. It was later rebuilt and is now graced with British style homes adding charm and elegance to this town. Many of these majestic homes have been converted to striking, high-end retail shops enticing international shoppers and tourists.

World-class vineyards have been developed in the area and are a tremendous asset to the economy and tourism.

Niagara-on-the-Lake hosts the Shaw Festival in several theatres in the town while splendid parks and recreation facilities augment some the finest dining in the Niagara area. Being in close proximity to the Honeymoon City of Niagara Falls, the historic ambiance and natural wonders entice travelers who return again and again.

Niagara-on-the-Lake accommodations in the form of bed and breakfasts in restored historical mansions attract international and local tourists and motels and chain hotels are in abundance.
