Port Severn, a village at the mouth of the Severn River on Highway 400, is sitting on the borderline between two different townships, split by the river into two small communities. Originally called Severn Mills after a local sawmill built in 1830, the village was renamed Port Severn in 1868. Gradually, as the lumber industry declined, Port Severn's lovely natural surroundings attracted tourists and cottagers.
Rent a houseboat and meander along the Trent-Severn Waterway, linking the Bay of Quinte with Georgian Bay. Marvel at the unique Big Chute Marine Railway, a giant traveling carriage and railway track that lifts boats over an extremely narrow part of the river. Boat, swim or fish in the pristine rivers and lakes in summer or cross-country ski, snowmobile or ice-fish in winter.
Port Severn accommodations in the area offer a variety of comfortable resorts, lodges, motels, cottages and bed and breakfasts.
