Schreiber is located on Highway 17, 500 km (about 300 mi.) north west of Sault Ste. Marie and 200 km (about 125 mi.) east of Thunder Bay on the most northerly point of Lake Superior, the largest fresh water lake in the world.

Following Lake Superior's shoreline a 52 km (about 32 mi.) rugged trail takes hikers past old gold mines, fossil deposits, trappers cabins, and also caves sketched with Native pictographs. Travelers have convenient vehicle access from the town center to Lake Superior affording the spectacular beauty of Lake Superior.

Winter enthusiasts enjoy the Casque Isles hiking trail, augmented with snowmobiling, cross country skiing, mountain biking, and over 27 inland lakes for fishing, boating, canoeing, and hunting.

The "Peel Off Winter Carnival" brings this unique community together for its annual wintertime festivities featuring sledding and other sporting events. During mid July, Schreiber comes alive again for its annual "Schreiber Heritage Days".
