Located about a two hour drive north of Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa is at the centre of networks of northern transportation, mining industries, forestry and eco-adventures. Snuggled between Lake Superior and spring fed Wawa Lake, it is most famous for its majestic wild goose statue mounted at the intersections of the Trans-Canada and 101 Highways. Wawa's name is taken from the Ojibway word meaning 'wild goose'. The sky becomes literally filled with Canada geese using Wawa Lake as their resting-place during their migratory journey.
Wawa is a friendly community with an energetic labour force exhibiting an unhurried lifestyle. Scenic nature trails, beaches of soft white sand, and exquisite waterfalls, enthrall locals and tourists alike.
August hosts an annual salmon derby on Lake Superior and in March, the annual Lake Trout Ice Fishing Derby. Fly-in or drive to experience the world-class fishing for whitefish, walleye, pike, brook trout, and salmon.
