A settlement dating back to the early 1800s, this charming community on Lake Ontario was Canada's training school for Secret Agents during World War II. Camp X Intrepid Park is accessible from Whitby's Waterfront Trail, part of a 300 km (186.4 mi.) trail from Burlington to Trenton. Heritage Buildings of architectural significance have been preserved for future generations.

Whitby harbour protects a yacht club, marina and boat launch. The relocated 1903 Victorian Train Station, housing The Station Art Gallery, displays changing exhibits of local and Canadian art.

Whitby accommodations include Bed and Breakfast Inns and popular hotel and motel facilities.
