The historical town of Ajax located along the picturesque shores of Lake Ontario was named after the HMS Ajax, one of a flotilla of WW II Royal Navy warships engaged in tracking the formidable German warship, the Admiral Graf Spee. The Royal Canadian Legion proudly displays the anchor from the HMS Ajax, presented by the British Admiralty in 1987.

Defence Industries Limited put Ajax on the map during the early 1940s with the opening of its artillery shell plant. After its closing in 1945, Dowty Aerospace began operations attracting automotive industries and boosting economic growth. The 1980s saw the expansion of retail shopping to facilitate its extensive residential development.

Waterfront walkways, bike paths, and sports facilities satisfy the sport and leisure minded. The annual Gammondale Strawberry Festival offers spectacular strawberry desserts, rides by draft-horse drawn wagons and enthralls all ages.

Ajax accommodations offer motels, and Bed and Breakfasts with splendid waterfront views.
