A hotel that's lost some glory
Founded in the 1780s by the United Empire Loyalists, Belleville is situated on the beautiful Bay of Quinte, with the Moira River winding through the Town. It was incorporated in 1878 and gained a reputation as the most prosperous town in Upper Canada due to its strategic location. Local heroes include pioneer writer, Susanna Moodie, and Bobby Hull, one of the greatest ice hockey players ever, who was born in nearby Pointe Anne and played minor hockey in Belleville.
Don't miss the annual Waterfront Festival, held every July and featuring music, water-ski shows, hundreds of boats and ethnic delights from food to dance. Sample world-renowned cheddar cheese and savour delicious market fresh produce grown by local farmers. Tee-up at some of Ontario's best golf courses or enjoy excellent sport fishing. Visit Glassmore National Historic Site with its fascinating collection of elegant Victorian furnishings and European Art.
Belleville accommodations offer an interesting choice of hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts.
