Markham evolved from its earliest agricultural settlements in 1794 to its current status of the four blended communities of Markham Village, Unionville, Milliken and Thornhill. It was incorporated as the Town of Markham in 1971 and, since then, has more than tripled its population. Although still encompassing rich farmland, Markham has a justly earned reputation as Canada's High-Tech Capital.

While visiting Markham, be sure to spend time in the beautiful parks and conservation areas. Its many sporting fields, playgrounds, tennis facilities and pathways offer outdoor fun for everyone. Festivals and events are happening all year long throughout the communities, including the Markham Fair in October and the Olde Tyme Christmas Candlelight Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony in Unionville each December. Be sure to visit the Markham Museum with its historic village and restored buildings and homes.

Markham accommodations offer a wide range of excellent hotels.
