Fun and Relaxation in Wasaga Beach

Wasaga Beach, located in Simcoe County, is not only a lovely town to visit, it also boasts the longest freshwater beach in the world. With an intriguing history that dates back to the days of fur trading, when it served as the gateway to the great Northwest, this lovely town served as a strategic location during the War of 1812; during the rest of the 19th century, lumber was the main industry, as the sandy soil here is unsuitable for farming. It was during the 1900s that families began to visit the area for its beauty. Wasaga Beach gradually became a destination for holidays and family picnics. For more than a century now, city dwellers have been flocking to the beach, where cottages and other fantastic accommodations await, as soon as summer begins. Here, we’ll take a closer look at some of the area’s best features.

Natural Beauty

More than two million people visit the town annually, just for the opportunity to stroll along the shores of the beach, which extends along the Nottawasaga River and Lake Huron’s Nottawasaga Bay. Here you can swim in clear, warm water, and enjoy splendid panoramic views of the mountains that rise up on the opposite side of the bay. There are plenty of trails to hike and lots of areas suitable for cycling, plus, in the winter, the area is a favourite destination for cross-country skiing and snowmobiling, thanks to heavy, intense snow squalls. The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs keeps snowmobile trails well-groomed; when you purchase a trail pass, you’re doing your part to keep the project funded.

The Nottawasaga River offers canoe routes and game fishing; and the beach, which fronts Nottawasaga Bay and part of the river itself, is divided into smaller beaches numbered 1 to 6 from east to west. Besides basking in the beauty of nature, you can engage in a rousting game of beach volleyball or simply lounge in the sun. If you like, you can explore the boardwalk that extends along most of beach 1 and 2.

Fun for Everyone

There are plenty of diversions available in Wasaga Beach. For instance, at Wasaga Beach Paintball Adventure, you’ll find not only paintball, but laser tag. Offering 13 different playing fields that cover 70 acres of woods, plus a 25,000 square foot indoor facility and much more, Wasaga Beach Paintball Adventure is located at the east end of Wasaga Beach off Highway 92.
