The Grand River region of Southwestern Ontario has diversity both in culture and geography.
Perhaps the most notable communities within communities are the Mennonites, who are in St. Jacobs (famous for its farmers market), Elmira and Elora. Try catching the Maple Syrup Festivals that take place in March. Aboriginal culture represented by the Grand River First Nations community in Oshweken. Fergus, in contrast, is famous for its August Scottish Festival and Highland Games
Larger cities include Guelph, which is a university town and home to The Arboretum. Kitchener-Waterloo is another university town with Wilfred Laurier and the University of Waterloo, which boasts alumni responsible for the Blackberry technology company. For less erudite proceedings, make sure to attend the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest. Cambridge is famous for its African Lion Safari where your drive through allows you to meet the animals close up. Brantford has a couple of famous citizens: Alexander Graham Bell owned a house in Brantford in 1870 and Wayne Gretzky was born in Brantford in 1961 and that's where he learned to play hockey. Hamilton, in the eastern part of this region, has much to offer including the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.
